  • I just wanted to add that my NRT-YVR connection bonus points posted quite quickly after the flight was over. Of course htey were not status miles sadly.

  • Could you list all the transactions for your trip? Seems to me a "Great Big World" transaction is simply the bonus and you should have other listings for the actual segments (YVR-HKG, HKG-YVR). More importantly, does the "GBW" transaction show as qualifying or not?

My story: Have 20051 status miles this year, need 15k to reach Elite. Going YVR-HKG at end of month - 12785 miles, so just over 2k shy. But then found the GBW promo and figured I'm golden. Called Aeroplan to see if the bonus miles count as status miles. After he checked out the promotion (i.e. doesn't know so he has to try to figure it out) he says yes, they count as status miles. SWEET!!!

Or maybe not. Didn't really trust him so checked out the Aeroplan site. Nothing saying bonus miles don't count as status miles. EXTRA SWEET!!!

Or maybe not. Keep searching and find a section that says "You earn Aeroplan Status Miles and Segments on flights with Air Canada, Star Alliance network and other eligible airline partners. You earn Aeroplan Miles through everyday purchases with our partners, such as from a partner car rental or hotel stay, or by filling up at Esso..... only Status Miles and Segments count toward Air Canada top-tier status." Seems to say that any aeroplan miles earned on AC and *A are status miles, and doesn't say that bonus miles don't count as status miles. HALLEFRIKKINLUJAH!!!!!

Or maybe not. Found the Across the Pond discussion. Promo seems nearly identical to GBW promo. A poster listed his miles earned: 4359 YYC-LHR (Q), 4710 LHR-YVR (Q), 9069 Across the Pond bonus (non-Q). Until/unless I hear otherwise, fairly certain GBW will work the same, so I guess it's UA SEA-SFO-HKG-SFO-SEA. Oh, well, at least I can look forward to those extra couple of passes through security. And having to claim my bag in SFO on the way back and checking it back in. And going through US Customs. The upside: E status and a couple of free proctological exams. Yep, life is good.Miles from this promotion doesn't count as status.

  • Just got from from HKG. M ticket YVR->HKG->YVR and see a "GREAT BIG WORLD" note in my Aeroplan transaction listing with 6k miles. According to the rules, my flight didn't qualify or am I missing something?

  • When I use a cert, TECHNICALLY I am "flying" in business class even though I've paid for Y. I wonder if the upgrade would qualify me for double miles :p .

Would be nice if my SE flight bonus applied to the bonus :p :p

Anyway, glad they expanded "across the pond" to other destinations so I can take advantage of this. ^
    This is great news.

YVR-HKG vv. flights do qualify for this promotion, only the YYZ-HKG vv. flights in J/C are excluded, they seem to be eligible for various economy fares. See here (http://www.aeroplan.com/promotions/promotion_details.do?promotion=promo_1411_q4_2006_ 9_18&selectedPartnerID=AirCanada)

  • oops am i missing something? it says YYZ-HKG does qualifly for M class... just not J class?

That's what I understand, too. I would also assume that I class would be ok as well, since AC defines ExecutiveFirst as booking classes J and C only.

  • I presume that these bonus miles are not status miles.

  • It's interesting that I class qualifies for the 25% bonus, but L does not. So if I buy an L class fare, and my SSWUs don't clear, that means I'm out of luck?

  • L class in Y should garner you the 25% bonus since it is a bona fide Economy fare (Both I and L are elligle for the "across the pond" promotion acording to the notes there).

The big world promotion has a series of numbers at the end of words that appear to indicate notes, but in typical well organized ac web style, there are no notes accompanying the numbers at the bottom of the page (at least not on my computer).

    According to AC.com
    4. Eligible booking classes for flights to and from Asia: Y, M, B, H, V, Q, and I

    No L??

  • Thanks for the clarification. Obviously, I didn't read the full rules of the promotion.

I just returned on the 24th.

So far, none of the points from AC897 have been posted or the bonus as of 0600 PDT 26SEP. [Oddly, points from 2 flights on LO GDN-WAW-LHR from the same date were posted the next day including COS bonuses.]

  • Tell me when AC will ever match or double status miles, then I will be interested.....these offers of double AP miles do not apply to status but that is what I am looking for as well as most other SEs or Es or even Prestige members. IT is now all about Status baby......and AC nor AE aint giving away the house on this level of promotion any time soon.

  • According to AC.com

    No L??
Well, you have to think about the acronym.

Qvbimhy rolls off the tounge much more easier than Qvbimhly... Or maybe not

  • On Sept. 5, I flew YVR-LHR on an H class fare that I upgraded to I class.

Does anyone know how long the wait will be? I registered online before the flight.

  • I would be surprised if I class counted for this bonus.

If my upgraded YUL-LHR route last week is any indication regarding bonus for I class, the answer is nope.

  • I presume that these bonus miles are not status miles.

A safe presumption given the debate on the other fall promo, Across The Pond, I would think.

  • I am going to miss out on this as I have a trip that are on different segments for the outbound (YYZ-HKG) and inbound (HKG-YVR) although they both in the promotion.

Is this correct? If you are flying two one way segments on the list, but not to/fro the same city do you not qualify. No indicaiton on AE website..
