Canadians flying home from the United States could find themselves standing in longer lineups at airport check-in counters if a U.S. proposal to fingerprint some exiting foreigners is adopted, the country's largest airline warns.

I wonder if this proposal will see the light of day or whether the new president's appointee to replace the current Supreme Leadership for Fatherland Protection and Public Enlightenment will kill this initiative in time.
^
Due to the number of smaller airports that AC serves in the US departing for Canadian airports vs the US flights originating from US hubs then this would affect AC much more than any other carrier, no? I think it is perfectly fine in the AC forum. ^

While I respect the Americans need for security. These measures are costing millions and indeed billions of dollars to implement with little proof that the actually make Americans that much 'safer'. Fingerprinting upon exiting the country? While I agree that perhaps an exiting passport check a la most of the rest of the world would make Chertoff & Co sleep better at night I fail to see how they would even begin to implement a fingerprint upon exit program given the sheer number of transborder flights from smaller US airports. The Americans (incl my relatives down there) need to have DHS focus on the real problems...not a Dash or Beechcraft flying into YYZ or YUL.

Rather than making that a post why not just use the Report Bad Post button instead to bring your opinion to the Mod.'s attention?
FWIW, being an AC topic the AC forum would seem the most appropriate place for the article which is why I posted it here.
Here is another nail in the coffin of USA "non business" travel.
The USA is free to implement any measure it wants....but it will bear the consequences of people avoiding this country for leisure travel.
I for one have started to implement this personal policy
This is great for Canada's tourism industry. I don't see Canada following the US lead on this one.

It already is as overseas tourist arrivals numbers are flat (http://travel.asiaone.com/Travel/News/Story/A1Story20080707-74981.html) when they should be rising and long term projections (http://tinet.ita.doc.gov/view/f-2000-99-001/forecast/Forecast_World_Regions_to_web.pdf) equally as flat. Perhaps those within the DC beltway haven't heard tourism is either the first, second or third largest industry in 29 of the 50 states.

I started not to transit in the US since we cannot be present when they search our bags. If they don't trust us, why do I trust them? And I don't trust the TSA locks either.
