These are probably quite basic questions about the AAdvantage program, but I have yet to find out answers.. Any help would be appreciated.
1) How long does it take to receive your AAdvantage Gold "credentials"? I qualified just about a month ago, but have not received anything. TWA and Continental were much quicker in past experience.
2) Are Web Fares (such as AA's current Europe special) upgradeable using miles?
3) What type of success rate do Gold members usually have trying to upgrade on a trans-Atlantic flight using miles?

I have found that it takes about 4-6 weeks for your credentials to arrive. However, your Gold status is evident to any gate/counter/cto/telephone etc. agent. You can call the AAdvantage number to confirm your status and receive the super secret telephone number for the AAdvantage Gold desk. One thing to know, if you made any reservations while just a plain AAdvantage member, call AAdvantage and have them repost your new Gold status to those reservations. If you don't, supposedly the computer only remembers your status when you made the reservation, and not your current status. This could make a difference if trying to upgrade etc.

There seems to be differing opinions on this one. However, I have been able to upgrade Web Fares using miles.

I have never had a problem upgrading trans-atlantic flights using miles. However, I take the approach of being extremely flexible in my travel arrangements and inform the CTO or AAdvantage desk that I am open (within certain dates) to traveling at whatever time and through whatever gateway city (ORD, JFK, DFW etc) is available for upgrade. Be very nice and patient and I have found that the agent is always willing to help out. They know that flying C on a long transatlantic flight makes a world of difference.
