I don't know about very little impact on the earth but the Chevy Metro, which has a 3 cylinder engine, atleast the 2 door stick shift has it, gets about 45 mpg in the city and about 50 mpg on the highway and brand new cost about $8,000 or so. I know when I got mine brand new in 1995 it was not much more than that with taxes and titiling it. Yes, the prices may have changed some since then and back in 1995 they were known as the Geo Metro.
