Ok, so let me just come out and say that I've never had to write a cover letter...that is mainly because i have never sought any "serious" employment and by that I mean anything other than retail positions.
I recently came across this real ad on craigslist: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ofc/8784...
And they ask for a cover letter, however in the examples that i've been looking at you have to write the name and address of the person doing the hiring(I think?) but I don't know exactly who that is for this company: http://www.edservices.org Jordo Media - View the feed - Free Cover Letter Assistance :: Aug 11, 2006 You have found one of the Internet's best resources for Cover Letter information . I suppose it's Ann Gordon who's the only person listed on the website, but i'm not sure, do i still address the letter to her? Since the ad does not give a name, I would address it as follows:
Dear Hiring Committee:
I chose that greeting because I have a feeling you may be interviewed by more than one person and/or more than one will be involved in the hiring process.
I would not be as concerned as much with the greeting as with making a specific cover letter in which you write the actual job title, as they directed in the job ad. Make sure you put the title in your letter and make sure that you highlight the skills you have that they want. Your letter is going to be VERY important here; I can tell by their ad.
Good luck! Looks like a neat job! :)
What dress should i wear for an interview ?
