Make sure your phone is under your name and a loan would help. Go get a personal loan for $300 dollars and put the money in your savings pay on it and make three times the minimum payments. I got a car loan, but had my dad co-sign. That helped boost my credit a lot. I am 22 and have better credit then my dad and he has really good credit.
You can start by getting a secured credit card.
Where I would start is where I do my banking. Do you have a bank account? The bank account alone doesn't directly build credit, but what it does do is establish a relationship with the bank, which does offer credit cards, and various types of loans. By already being a customer by keeping your money at a bank, it would only make sense to the bank to get your business by offering other products. Frequently Asked Questions - Yahoo! One of the easiest ways to build credit is to apply for and open up a "secured" credit card. A security deposit is required upfront which usually matches the credit line. For example, if you deposit $300, then you would have a $300 credit limit. Provided that you pay on time and keep the account in good standing, you get the deposit back and a regular card sometime later on. The key not just only with a secured card, but with ANY credit card is to purchase only what you can afford and pay it off on time every month. It's not so much how much do you use on the card, perse', rather than how well you pay back what you use. Spend no more than $20/month and pay it off in full, to show activity on the account. That way, you build credit by showing activity, but not go into serious debt at the same time.
