If your taxes go up, do you think you will give less charitable donations?

  • I gave almost $1800 last year. I think the more taxed I am, the less I will afford to give.

  • No. My taxes won't go up under Obama and I NEVER give money to charity....as too much ends up going to the CEO's and not enough to the people who need help.
I spend over half of my year working to rebuild houses and lives in the gulf coast and this year in Texas....it will not change, regardless....though with McCain's plan, I will have less money for travel and my personal expenses.

  • The 24k i paid last year to the government was a charitable donation.

  • I make less than 250,000 so my taxes aren't ging up

  • No.I will always try but as the prices of everything rise the take home pay dwindles, leaving us with less money in our pockets and bank accounts. which leaves little or no money for other things.necessary or otherwise.

  • Taxes go up charities go down. It's proved statistic.

  • No. I;ll be waiting for my part of the wealth from Obama. He"s going to help me. He said so.

  • The deductions help, but that's not why I give...

By the way, if your taxes are going up, that means you make more than $250K.

You could afford a LOT more than $1800. Heck, I gave away more than that and I'm nowhere NEAR your tax bracket.

  • I believe in giving to the poor and needy. But I don't see any need for the government taking my, (our) money and then deciding what charities to give it to.

I like making those choices for myself.

  • well of course it will make your finances tighter. so will increasing fuel prices because obama won't drill and wait till we have to pay for his federal health care and education plans!

I will still give what I can. basically just to my church. but I make about a third of what you do.... and I guess I give about 6oo/yr ish...

  • Taxes are so high anyway, most of us don't give much, if any, money to charity even if we wanted.

  • My god!!! Donations are TAX DEDUCTABLE!!!!!

  • absolutely. i have limited available funds. the more the government thieves from me the less i have available to donate to charity. if the government only took what it rightfully should from me, something like 1 or 2% instead of the outrageous whatever percentage it is now, then now only would i feel a stronger obligation to give to charity but i would also have more money available to actually make it happen.

  • What do you mean, if our taxes go up we are giving to charity

  • I'll give what I can afford. My taxes won't be going up either way, I hope. I live alone and support myself on $15,000 a year. I usually give around $300 a year: all that I can afford. If the cost of living and cost of gas continues to increase, I won't be able to give anything at all.

  • duh! so vote for obama! and if you dont your jsut racis

  • My taxes won't go up. I don't make more than 250K.

  • It doesn't matter how much my taxes go up because the Lord always makes sure I can give. He just wants to see if I will let go of what I have. It's not always in the form of money. I donate all of my resources; money, time, vehicle, advice/counseling, etc.

  • Dont people normally get a tax return for everything they donate to charity?

  • Charity begins at home!

  • Yes!
I am already curtailing my charitable donations due to my retirement plan drying up this past month. I never stop in church any more. I gave up walking dogs at the shelter to put in more time at work.

If taxes go up I may not be able to give anything. There is only so much a working woman can do.

  • I run for charity so I collect money from a lot of people. People should still be able to give me a dollar here and a dollar there.

  • That's ok. Obama will make sure you are charitable. Probably even more than the $1,8000.00 you offered up last year. Does that make you Dem's feel all warm and fuzzy?

  • Hell no, you'll be giving more. You just won't be donating voluntarily any more.

  • No effing way. When taxes go up EVERYBODY hurts.

  • It's funny how you give money to charity. You get to pick who you give it to, because its YOUR money.

Obama wants you to give it to him and then he will give it to whoever he chooses.
