i have my xbox hooked up to my pc via cross over and an ethernet card. everything from ftp to xlink works fine, but i cannot get xbmc to connect up to the net so i can get the rss feeds and other features etc.
can anyone please help it has been driving me mad for about 6 months now! and i promise myself today i will get it to work!
thanks for all your help and keep up the good work :kickass:
sweet, i got it working. i changed the ip address of my router and configured the xbox for static ip.
reason why i don't plug straight into the router is because the router is downstairs, i am upstairs.
i was thinking of buying a wireless g adapter for my xbox. that would eliminate the need for ics and connecting to the pc, wouldn't it?
thx again, mrrogerz
sure would.
but from what i am reading in here wireless support for xbmc is a bit dodgy.
i ended up buying a 30m patch cable to plug into mine! lol
had to ask g/f first if she minded a blue cable running down the house
its because you're router is likely acting as a dhcp server and using the same exact subnet that ics wants to use (192.168.0.0/24). you need to change one of them to use a different subnet (192.168.1.0/24).
ok guys i get what you are saying, i am running windows xp so what do i need to do to setup the ics?
thanks for your help again!

thx again, mrrogerz

as regards to an example:-
pc --> modem-->phone line.

nic card

xbox
thanks................
open up a command window (start=>run then type "cmd" and press [enter])
in the command window type "ipconfig" [enter]
assuming you only have one network card on the pc.
parrapa: not really, how exactly are you connected,
at least mrrogerz gave us a more of an example.
actually im not sure why we give help to these sort of questions, its got nothing todo with xbmc.
best bet is to read something like this http://www.windowsnetworking.com/j_helmig/guide.htm
you need to define an ip address for the xbox, a default gateway which in this case would be your computers ip address, and a dns server which would be an internet dns server. (if you dont know your provider's dns server, try 4.2.2.1)
ok im with you , what is the best way of finding out my computers ip address?
thanks
i had a similar problem, my xbox was able to communicate over my router, but it couldn't fetch rss feeds, the problem was that i was using a static ip address.
if you're using a static ip address for your xbox try switch it to the dhcp setting in the network settings of the xbmc settings, that should fix the problem.
good luck, and post back if it helps. :)
why don't you plug the xbox into the router?
that way you don't need your pc on to access the net from xbox.
hello,
i have a similar problem. here is my setup
xbox-->pc-->wireless adapter-->router--->internet
i setup ics in windows xp but got an error about there being more than one 192.168.0.1 address on the network. is this because my pc is connected to a router rather than directly to the internet modem? perhaps another computer on my home network already is assigned 192.168.0.1
any ideas how i can fix this?
thanks much, mr rogerz
you probably dont have the correct dns set. enable debugging by holding x+y while xbmc loads... after it loads, post the log file here. this way we can see your ip settings.
obviously you do not know how to network pc's as you didnt know how to get your pc's ip address or that you needed to enable ics in windows.
hi all
thanks for your help, i have tried changing it to dhcp but this makes no difference, i am not using a router i am going through a cross over and a nic card. not sure if that is why i am having so much trouble??
how do i get the log file from xbmc after i have enabled debug mode?
thanks for all your help
:d
ok just worked out how to share the net connection and that seems to be set up fine now, i just need to know what settings i need to put into xbmc. i am using evo as my dash, which all if have done to is create a static ip address in the evox front end, nothing else. thanks
guys, i got a similar issue, but i'll try to post as much details as i can.
i have 2 networks :
1) cable lan
pc 192.168.10.1 <-> xbox 192.168.10.2
2) wireless lan
pc 192.168.0.1 <-> routeur modem 192.168.0.254 --> 82.236.xx.xx for my static internet ip
(plus my ds at 192.168.0.2 but it is not applicable here :))
how do i change my settings for my xbox to be able to retrieve informations and data from the internet ?
- what shall i input for dns entry on xbmc ?
- i set up static ip manual settings in xbmc to 192.168.10.2, 255.255.255.0, 192.160.10.1
- what is bridging two connections (in xp), and is that of any relevance here ?
- can i still proceed with the idea of two separate networks (with different ip ranges) with the xbox getting the internet from my routeur not on the same network ?
- with xbmc settings manually defined, do they conflict in any way with those from evox if different ?
thanks for your help !!
connecting your xbox to your pc is not going to get you to the internet without running some iis service on your pc. your pc does not inherently act as a router to get you to the net.
dont blame xbmc for wireless being dodgy..
if you get the same brand wireless kit or you spend big money on nortel or cisco then wireless is fine.
the cheap and dodgy zxy brands are the main issue.
if you have a late-ish version of wiindows you can prolly enable internet sharing on the pc.
this will allow other machines on the network to use the pc's connection to get out on the net.
if your running ics then your pc will be 192.168.0.1, easier though would be to set your xbox to be dhcp as ics is a dhcp server already, but if that doesnt work or you would prefer static then use the following for your xbox
ip:192.168.0.2
subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway:192.168.0.1
dns:192.168.0.1
you havent mentioned how your windows xp machine connects to the internet so this information may not work for you.
i connect to the internet via a broadband modem, to aol, does this help with the settings that i need to put into xbmc??
presumably you have more than one network card if you are runing ics, so you'll need to get address that looks like your xbox ip address. probably some 192.168 address.
yeah, as bogus points out, that setup wont provide internet access unless you enable internet connection sharing.
