It seems so Un-American for a uniformed officer to be rallying with Sarah Palin that I was wondering if that officer violated some kind of law or code. If he was out of uniform then he was off duty and as a citizen he is at liberty but when in uniform that means he represents the law enforcement and to serve and protect the people rather than to be rallying for a bunch of politicians. Maybe some lawyers can chime in.
I'm not sure about the lawfulness of such actions, but it would seem to be unethical in most cases. Just as Oprah shamelessly campaigning for Obama. Goes both ways my friend.
**edit**
Good point Bob. Didn't think of that.
When you say "uniformed" do you mean an officer that is not on the duty? If so, people do have different rights, if he is not working then he can do and think however he wants, will it effect his job, sure and can harm in the long run. Are you sure that he was 'rallying' with her? Could he perhaps have been providing security/crowd control for the event?
I do agree that he should not be participating in any political event, regardless of the candidate or party, while in uniform.
I don't know but it happens a lot on both sides. They hold even more crucial jobs in government than one city employee. That doesn't seem "Un-American" to you? No, you just hate Palin. Just say it. Don't pretend you have any valid reason for asking but to try to discredit her. It's people like you that forced this nation into a two party system. I am so sick of it. I don't want either side, because none of them represent the individual, the capitalist, the moralist. They are just two clubs, the Democrats and the Republicans, and they play off each other to exploit the American people. You give your party full reign to be "Un-American" but hold the other side to extreme standards. You know who wins? Nobody.
The Sheriff IS a politician. He may have rules against his deputies practicing politics on-duty or in uniform but the Sheriff is an elected official. I wouldn't think it un-american for a Republican Sheriff to rally for her or a Dem Sheriff to do the same for the other guy. I saw our Sheriff standing tall with Bill and Hillary about 16 years ago and he ended up as the US Marshal.
As someone else pointed out, the Office of Sheriff is an elected position. And as such can endorse other Politicians as he/she chooses to do so.
Take down his information and report him!
Another misrepresentation by another servant of the GOP serpent!
