Not attacking. Really want to know from atheists. Do atheists consider that their lack of belief in God is a religion? If you do not believe in God then can you believe that man has a spirit? So what about atheism leads to "spirituality"? I am not saying that atheists can't think on a deeper intimate level but is it "religion and spirituality"? What's spirituality to you?
That is what really surprised me with this forum. I expected to see postings from people with varying beliefs on who God is and how we relate to Him. I was either naive or did not understand that atheism is actually a religion and a confirmation of a spirit of some kind. Or do you just monitor this forum because you deny religion and spirituality.
Don't get upset. I'm not saying you shouldn't post hear. Just saying I was surprised and would like a serious atheist (not angry) to help me understand your views on whether or not you view atheism as a religion and spiritual journey.
There are many reasons for atheist to care about religion. Political reasons, environmental reasons, economic reasons.
A very select few come to get honest answers. 98% of them come to mock and insult. 80% of that 98% have never honestly read the Bible and even if they did came away from it empty and not understanding.
Unbelievers cant take a swing at God so they come to mock the manifestation of the very thing they hate the most; religion and God himself.
I'm not trying to be rude, but largely Christians feel they know all the answers, and don't need to question so much.
It's a cliche but most people have a certain need, or "hole" that can be fulfilled by various things, but the simplest are drugs, and religion, also what is loosely termed spirituality.

As far as atheism being a religion, I don't think so (many do). For it to be one atheists would have to think in terms of God or no God being an absolute choice, that's a choice imposed by theists,Christians, for example.
No more meaningful than someone saying they believe that a giant invisible mushroom controls our lives, and calling those who don't believe that by a catergorization, suggesting the lack of a giant invisible mushroom in their lives is signifigant
As a Christian I can't say for sure but I think that a lot of athiests just like to argue. That leads to a question I have... Do the athiest who post questions about God really want to know, or do they just want to argue?

im happy about it, im seeing alot of people younger than i am making far more educated and thought out responses than mine. it shows that our kids are getting smarter (at least when it coems to logic and reasoning).
its a great sign. maybe religion (in america) will die faster than the 20-30 year prediction i gave.
Partly bacause there is a lot of nonsense being spread around here about atheists and we feel the need to stand up for ourselves. Partly because Chrsitians have a tendency to try to validate their religion through legislation and someone needs to stand up against that. Partly because Christians seem to want to pretend we don't exist or are sdomehow amoral. And partly because I enjoy the discussion.
By the grace of God, atheists are lead to this "Religion and Spirituality" Section because, while they self-procalim to be atheists, they too thirst for Divine truth inwardly while at the same time they deny it outwardly.
Fittingly I would say, atheists are masters of hypocrisy. But at the end, when they will have their own "encounter with the Divine", their atheism will be converted into realization and deeper relationship with the Lord.
Atheism IS a religion, make no mistake.
The believe there is no God. They base this belief on their saying that there is no evidence of God. Thus, they have a belief based on no evidence. What do we call belief without proof? Faith!
It is strange that they would spend so much time on something that they do not believe. The answer might be John 8:44.
Atheism is not a religion, but it does pertain to religion, since it is the lack thereof. So, being a subject that pertains to religion, it falls under the broad heading, "Religion and Spirituality."
My experience on the internet is that, on sites that have separate R&S and Atheism/Agnosticism categories, sincere Christians and Atheists/Agnostics tend to stay on their sides of the fence, whereas fundies and insecure atheists will flame each other. Agnostics generally drift around both sides, favoring Atheism, but if they go over to the Christian side, they don't troll. There's always more instances of fundies trolling atheists than the reverse.
One can be an Atheist and be spiritual.
Atheists do actually have their own religion. It's call the Church of Reality. They believe in whatever is really real. Check out the cite below.
I asked why atheists come here, and they said you dont have to be religious to be spiriual, or belive in god to be spiritual, so I asked a questions, what is spirit without God, I didnt get any responses. My guess is that in some way atheist want to know they are in control, that they are better than someone because they think their brain is the only think they should rely on. But I don't know. Personally, I and deeply spiritual but on the verge of anti-religious. I come to see how the religious mind works. They are open to the absurd and closed to the obvious and proud of the fact. I think it is worth studying.

you'll notice that ironically God and spiritualism are all atheist seem to think about. for example, the writers of family guy are atheist and in most ,if not all, of their episodes they mention God in a negative way. who knows why its all they think about, perhaps its their conscience weighing down on them. who knows?
2 reasons: 1. Spirituality doesn't have to be theistic; my good friend is a very spiritual zen buddhist and an atheist. 2. Because fundamentalism has threatened our western society, people come here to attack fundamentalists. Were it not for the sillyness with stem cell research, the 10 commandments, anti-evolution, and trying to push religion into issues such as brain-dead people on life support, fundamentalists would be less of a target. Add to this the fact that fundamentalists in the Middle East are reaking havoc on our safety and this just adds to the problem.
Because in an odd paradoxical way, Atheist tend to take religion more seriously then it's actual followers. Probable because they can sense how dangerous religion can be.
they hate God because He puts limits on behavior and having this kind of forum is like a magnet to them for the attack. they are not secure in their own beliefs so they need to put down anyone who is. they are trying to find our weakness and trip us up, like the pharisees tried to ensnare Jesus. Do like He did, refute their arguments with scripture. of couse, they don't believe scripture is from God, so that usually doesn't work. at least the pharisees believed in God and could be reasoned with...

Lack of belief is not a religion.
Most atheists, if not all, do not believe that humans have spirits.
Many would deny that they are spiritual at all. I find spirituality in knowledge, sincere debate, and in forcing myself into out-of-body experiences using pain, hyperthermia, and exhaustion. But that's just my experience of an abnormal neurological condition.

No, I do not consider it a religion, quite the opposite. That's not to say that an atheist couldn't have a religion or be spiritual, many do, and can. I am not one of those. But just because I am not something doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it. I'm not a politician but that doesn't stop me from having an opinion on politics.

Atheists are just as religious as any other so-called religious people. They know God exists just as much as anyone else does, but they deny it because they are too proud to submit themselves to a holy and righteous God who would change them to be what He wants them to be. They are happy to remain in their sin where they will be forever in eternity-if they never come to Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive them of all their sins.

He meant I am the only way to God the Father and to heaven , I am the only truth that you need to know. and I am the only spiritual life available to mankind. All other so-called gods are false gods. They are not real. They do not exist. Satan creates counterfeit gods, religions and faith in them. They appear to be the genuine articles but they are false. They are phony. They are bogus. No other so-called god has the power to forgive, cleanse and remove all your sins from you to get you to heaven. They don't even claim to.
I pray you will believe this and accept the fact that you are a sinner needing to be saved from your sins ( For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23, The Holy Bible.) and accept the fact that the blood Jesus Christ shed for you at Calvary is the only way you can have your sins forgiven, cleansed and removed and is the only way you can get to heaven. I pray you will acknowledge that you are a sinner and ask Jesus Christ to forgive, cleanse and remove all you sins and accept Him into your heart/life to live for Him the rest of your life. I believe Atheists are really believers in hiding. They seek God but are frightened, angered, or arrogant to investigate their fears. The internet provides the undercover experience to unleash all their doubts without standing openly.
In their hearts they know sincerely that they too are part of the Body of Christ.
They are like small pampered children facing the real world without ever experiencing the world. True atheists would not waste their time causing such hatred.
