  • OK well a few years ago i was very very self confident, to the point of annoying cocky. i was so into myself and everyone knew it, i was just in love with everything about me lol. but then i started experimented with drugs (mostly weed) for a little more than a year and everything in my life pretty much went terrible in every single way, but thts all history now mostly. well during that time my self confidence was completly gone, i basically became a whole different person. i didnt even like to look in the mirror because i just hated myself i guess. really weird what drugs can do but since i stoppede using my life is pretty much back on track, exept for the confidence thing. i mean i look the same as before, if not improved actually, but i just can't find the mindset that gave me my former confidence i know its annoying when people get really cocky, i dont wanna be liek that again, but a little confidence wouldn't hurt. so any help on improving my confidence would be much appreciated. and 10 points for a good answer of course

  • You are a living example of the dangers I advise people about drug taking..I am constantly amazed that I get the thumbs down on this subject yet it is so obvious to me that if one takes drugs problem(s) will appear in their life and no good will come from it... .

But you dont have a read a congressional report or go to our hearing and sit if they have qualifying incomes, to help make a downpayment on a first house.

  • Drugs like weed can seriously mess with the chemicals in your brain, so the first important thing is to get off them (which you have) and stay off (which it sounds like you are). Now, try and think about what you liked about yourself before, and how those things are still there, or could be. For example, did you think you had awesome hair? Do you like your hair now? If not, you could try a new haircut. And so on. Also, if you have trouble with mirrors, try writing a positive message and taping it to the top of your bathroom mirror. Corny, I know, but it sometimes works. Good luck!

  • because of weed?

  • Start lifting weights, find a hobby that no one you know has (playing an instrument, bicycle riding, sports, etc) and get to know new people that share that interest.

Low self confidence occurs when you feel like the people around you have something you don't.

Basically you just have to realize that no one you know or can know is any better than you in any way. If you tried, you could become what any of them have become - you could actually do better.
Just start teaching yourself this fact by setting goals and sticking to them. Make yourself a man of action and abundance (abundant friends, hobbies, etc), and then no one can affect your confidence, because your confidence will be so deeply ingrained within you by the actions and experiences you go through on a daily basis.

  • I don't think you were really confident before.

You just thought you were without any REAL solid evidence to back up how great you thought you were.

It sounds like your ego was doing all the talking, all the thinking. Egos are shallow and superficial and feed off of low self esteem.

Why did you start smoking pot?. Well, you felt empty, unfulfilled, a huge void in your life. Something was missing.

The difference now is that, hopefully, you have faced some reality and you are learning that you have to put forth some real effort toward building confidence and self esteem. Confidence is not merely feeling great about yourself or just thinking that you are great. Confidence is a knowing that all you set out to do that you will be successful, and even if you're not successful you understand that you're still okay even when you fail at something.

YOu need to work at something (a skill or a talent) and build on it, become an expert at it. This grows self esteem and confidence. It's like building a house, you have to set a solid foundation first to place the frame on, and then build from there.

There's a huge problem with young people today. High schoolers are way too confident for their own good and believe they're so perfect there's no room for improvement. This comes from parents and others telling the kids they are so wonderful and smart and perfect from the day they were born, the poor kids don't get a chance to take a deeper look into themselves to see if they can improve on anything. They just think they're perfect and everything they do or say is right and no body can say differently.

But the harsh reality sets in when they get out into the real world and discover "Oh my gosh. I'm not perfect, I'm not right all the time". That's when the depression sets in.

  • To start, most people who are annoyingly cocky usually suffer from low self esteem, whether they know it or not. One of those defense mechinisms. Perhaps it wasn't the drug that caused your change in behavior. Sounds to me like chronic depression. Weed doesn't cause something like this, but maybe it triggered it, or maybe the other things you mentioned about your life going, "terrible in every single way."
Whatever the case is, I think you ought to see to a doctor to help you with this melancholy. Your selfesteem ought to be back on track afterwards.

  • Do something easy and win it! Beat some three year olds at a race! Or compare your test grades with those of the people who got you to smoke! And being really cocky comes from a high opinion of yourself so maybe write something critically of others, as a joke of course, if you're a creative writer.
My arrogance comes from thinking that I'm the best at being creative.

Actually wait, I like the answer above mine, but w/e

Why would someone get bored with doing IT for 10 years?
