Hello - am taking the 620AM YHZ-BOS flight. When would you recommend to arrive at the airport, US immigration pre-clearance and all?
Now were this YYZ, we'd suggest you camp out at the airport and set your alarm for 3am to make it through check-in, pre-clearance and security in time. ;)
I did the Monday morning transborder commute thing at YYZ T2 in 2002, 2003, and 2004. It's a wonder that I'm still sane. Of course, I perfected the art of getting there just in time to have our flight called and me bypassing everyone in line :D (before I got my INSPASS, after INSPASS was canceled, and when the Terror Alert was Orange).
Yes - generally AC Jazz arrives at Terminal "C" ... except for "international" arrives where AC Jazz arrives into Terminal "E" along with Air France, KLM etc ... so I suspect that clearance of US Customs in this case from YHZ (if no pre-clearance there) is done in Terminal E at Logan ... 2002 North American Traffic Report – Passenger Rankings:: airport bos     22,696,141 -7.3. 22. la guardia bur       4,620,683 3. 64. reno/tahoe intl http://www.eltoroairport.org/issues/2002passrankings.htmlHOME | FlightView (BUF) Buffalo Flight Tracker & Airport Delays:: Check Buffalo Airport (BUF) airport delay status, BUF flight arrivals and BUF flight Holiday Inn Buffalo-Downtown: 620 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY: Reviews http://www.flightview.com/TravelTools/ViewAirport.asp?airport=BUFHOME |

Correction to my post just above ... looking at the arrivals information at the above url tells me that a recent flight from YHZ arrives at Terminal "C" ... so this is the same as YOW, YYZ and YUL flights ... so maybe there is pre-clearance in YHZ?
:D
If it's still arriving at "E", then I can just picture a couple of CRJ's parked next to 777's, 767's, 757's, and 747's :D (the only little birdies in plain view of anything else)

You don't mention the day you're travelling, but YHZ has so few flights you should be fine an hour before flight time. With no PreClearance, your line-ups should be minimal as AC only shows three flights before 7:30am weekdays, though there are a couple of other flights to Florida on weekends. As noted there are only two other small aircraft flights on US carriers at that time too.

If you check in online, you should be alright showing up at 5:40 or so. You probanly won't have time for Tim's, though.
The kiosks cut off transborder check-in at 60 minutes, but an agent can override that, if they are so inclined.
The only other US flights at that time are an RJ each to BOS (DL), EWR (CO) and DTW (NW), most of whose passengers will have checked in and pre-cleared already, so you should be fine if you cut it close.
Thanks for the input - so no pre-clearance at YHZ, huh? I just assumed there would be, as with all the other major Canadian airports... no info on the subject on the YHZ website either. At least then you can get to the airport a "little later" :D .
Do you happen to know how they plan on implementing this? Are they planning on using the end of the structure nearest the IMP hangars or down by the former Air Nova complex? Seeing as the current passenger screening area is in the central part of the terminal it would be tough to segregate US-bound pax without building a separate checkpoint...
Since there's no preclearance at YHZ, does that mean the flight to Logan would mean international arrivals and processing there? Interesting...
Having said that, I would do a web check-in before you go to YHZ.

The new building is at the IMP hanger end, rather than the Air Nova end. When I flew in last Wednesday afternoon, I noticed that the steel-work is up. I'd say we're at least six months from completion, but that's a pretty rough estimate.
You're right, the new security screening facility (a vast improvement over the old set-up) is right in the centre of the terminal. I'm not sure how they're going to design the access for US-bound passengers.
I have done this route a # of times, and as of three weekends ago there was no pre-clearance in YHZ.
Be warned that the time you save in bed at the YHZ end is made up at the BOS end. The plane will physically arrive at terminal C, but you then get stuck in a bus (a la infield terminal at YYZ), and get bused over to terminal E where you clear customs & immigration (newly renovated and much nicer than before, and be glad that you aren't trying to go through at the same time as all the Atlantic arrivals - got caught a few times :()
The bus ride can be great for a "little kid with nose to the window" type of flier, but will be a pain if you just want to get going. Just 3 weeks ago did YHZ-BOS on Delta and got bused over from Terminal A. GREAT view of a BA 747, next to a tiny Cape Air C210?, ("a big daddy plane and a little baby phone" according to fiance ;)).

US pre-clearance at YHZ ... it was announced last December, but the facility is still under construction. I understood that the service would only be offered once the addition was finished. (I don't travel from YHZ to the US, so I may be missing something here.)
I was at YHZ earlier this month and there was a seperate check-in desk for BOS flights, which led me to believe that pre-clearance was in place (I have nos flown YHZ-BOS in several years).
Now that I think about it, the seperate BOS desk might have been to steer BOS-bound bags through the baggage scanner that is set up near the US carrier's counters.

Yes, that's what it is.
Here's the url for the the airport's December news release: www.hiaa.ca/default.asp?id=190&pagesize=1&sfield=content.id&search=436&mn=70.1.14.64.166
"The United States has agreed to extend preclearance to Halifax as soon as the airport’s new preclearance facility is completed."
What dress should i wear for an interview ?
