I was working the line today when a passenger approached me and asked why their flight wasn't confirmed in Business Class the entire portion of the trip. I carefully examined the booking, done on Aircanada.ca and it was in fact a REVENUE TICKET, booked in "D" and "W" classes from Mocton (?) to Toronto to Ft. Laud and back.
What was wierd about this was the passengers said they bought it online like this and it came out to $45CAD each person, round trip.
Anyone else see these fare glitches? I've never seen anything like this, where it splits up each segment in Hospitality and the other in Executive Class..

D class is a Aeroplan reward business class ticket and W class is a reward ticket in economy.
It sounds like the passenger booked a reward trip in business class and one of the segments had no business class seats and was booked in W economy reward.

I wasn't working the ticketing line, just counter assist... so I wasn't checking them in. The passenger just handed me the itinerary from the website and I sent him on his way to the lead...
Air Canada doesn't send every employee through full ticketing training, especially us seasonal folks. I didn't mean to make AC look bad, just had a question about a wierd itinerary... Frequently Asked Questions : V-Flyer: The Virgin Atlantic Flyer :: However your TP balance will not zero down, as it enters the normal Silver status . FARE CLASS (CODE), % OF BASE MILES. Most *US* based airlines include some sort of endorsement in the fare line such as "Exch 016xxxxxxxx" on United, for example, which automatically lets us know it's an award ticket.
Again, many apologies, the Canadians do quite a few things differently.....

Moncton (YQM) is in New Brunswick. Nice, but crappy place. I spent four hours there in September, and it was four hours too many... North America's (well, at lesat Canada's) largest one floor shopping centre is there (it's built on swamp land). They do have a nice new airport -- I thought I was in YVR...
So what did you tell the guy? I referred him to the lead and I assume they took care of him/her. I guess I am used to the UA fare buckets and not AC's. I just thought it was wierd that it was split up like that and I was reviewing the fare line and taxes.... I just assumed it was an erroneous fare (like the Tequila Run to PVR on Mexicana).

That's called not letting the left hand know what the right hand is doing... *sigh*

He was charged the full points for D class. Did you confirm him in D class?
If he hasn't flown yet, be sure to put him on the WL with top priority and handle him like J pax because he paid full J miles for the trip.
No offense what scares me is that an AC employee has to come to FT to find out fare codes for a ticket. Certainly explains why many of them can't figure out the new upgrade rules if they don't know the difference between a revenue and reward ticket.

part of the problem is as far as aeroplan is concerned unless you are an aeroplan agent then we should be told nothing. We are not supposed to change reservations unless it is an irrop. I couldn't tell you what most of the award codes mean. Recently someone showed me how to tell if it is a D or W reward. If they had not told me I still would have not known.

That's really scary. As Empress pointed out, anyone on a D ticket but initially booked in Y has priority standby for a J seat. Once again, people at the front end take the heat.
What dress should i wear for an interview ?
